Episode 13 : Christian D’Amour
Episode 13 of The TeachBack kicks off today with a focus on FATHERHOOD. My guest, Christian D’Amour, is a dad and someone I respect deeply for so many reasons. My relationship with Christian in a teacher-learner setting centered around our 4 weeks together in the Leader Corps Cabin when I was LC Director at Camp Belknap and Christian was one of 12 boys under my supervision. That was 17 years ago. Christian was 16 years old and I was 21. I remember Christian and his friend, Jimmy, coined a phrase that month any time someone in the cabin was attempting to do something for the first time, or was hesitant to join in an activity. “Be a Boy!” Now before anyone jumps to the conclusion that there was any gender-normative slant to this phrase, what Christian really meant was, Be a kid! Let your joy carry you! Have fun! and…we all happened to identify as male because it was a camp for boys. So today I welcome you to this conversation with Christian D’Amour.
